Behold! The schedule!

Ok, you've asked and asked and asked, here is the schedule. Jump below, download it, stare in wonder and come back to read the explanations.

OK, back? Sufficiently confused? Good.

A division teams, you have a straight forward double round-robin and a six team bracket. Good luck.

The zoo that is the 20 teams of B division gets to have a little more fun. You'll find yourselves placed into four five team pods. Each pod will play a round-robin that will finish up Friday afternoon. Then teams will be placed in seeded pods. All four first place teams will go into the b pod, second place into the g pod, third to d and so on. You can thank the Greek's for the alphabet.

Seeded pods will play another round-robin. After that pod, teams will be placed into the B bracket for 1st through 8th. The C bracket for 9th-16th and the D round-robin for 17th-20th. There will be crossover games between 7th-9th and 15th-18th before the brackets.

B and C will play an 8 team bracket. D will play a simple round-robin for their finals.

USA UWH Nationals 2014 Schedule in PDF

Behold, the App!

In this day in age, what would nationals be with an "app" and by app I mean webpage.

We will be updating scores continuously throughout the day. It will calculate standings and fill in the seeded pods, crossover and brackets automatically. You can look at the whole view, division, pod or even just team. Please keep in mind that the team view only shows confirmed games, it wont show what potential games later in the day you could have until the seeding is final.

Official record will be the paper trail from the judges table and calculated standings. The app is there to help. If you encounter any issues with the app please talk to me, Jim Lester and I will promptly ignore you, or fix it, or both.

Captain's Meeting

The Captain's Meeting will be at 8:00 am in the upper lobby of the aquatic Center. Bellow are the rules that will be discussed at the meeting.

RULE #1 and #21 will be enforced!

Captain's Meeting Notes

Additional thanks to 3M for donations not mentioned in captains notes.

In the past week Minnesota has been hit hard with heavy rains and our rivers are flowing fast and high. As such, mother nature has forced us to move Camporama from the beautiful submerged St. Croix beach to a location that is above water. The condiment bottles kept floating away at our original site.

We will now enjoy the beautiful Minnehaha Park - the lovely park that Henry Wordsworth wrote about, but never bothered to actually visit. There are many trails to walk around Minnehaha Park, and the falls is stunning at flood stage. One can also rent 4 person pedal thingies and ride around the park. It is possible to wade in the creek below the falls; if interested bring shoes that can get wet. Below is a link to Minnehaha Park.

Ben Erickson will present a one man dramatic interpretation of Song of Hiawatha, including the epic battle scene. Viewers are invited to join in with rocks and large sticks.

We will provide the food, you provide your non-descript beverage. This is a City park and alcohol is not allowed.

We will provide transport to Camporama. Transportation to the airport will be by the convenient Hiawatha Light Rail. The light rail station is Located 2 blocks from the park, with trains arriving every 10 minutes (15 after 7:00PM) and the time to the airport is 10 minutes.

See the following for specific times. Departure is from station #11 Minnehaha Station – Airport stations are #14 and #15.

If you have special needs that precludes using Light Rail please contact a Loon Member in the Loon Bin so we can find an alternate means of getting you to the airport.

People planning on camping at the St. Croix are welcome to crash at the Kurt's house located less than a mile from the park. Please talk to Kurt so they can know how many people to expect. Kurta<@>

Socializing Locations (aka places to drink)

If you attended our tournaments in the past you know that Sally's was the bar/restaurant of choice. Sally's is being redeveloped and will not be opened in time. Therefore, we will be doing our "socializing" at four different establishments. Each evening will bring a new experience all within walking distance of the hotels. The establishments have been informed and are ready for us! You can eat at these places or explore other restaurants in the area, but later in the evening gather at the "socializing" locations.

Light Rail Train Information (aka getting there)

If you attended our facility in the past and arrived by plane you took the light rail train to Minneapolis and then the hotel would pick you up. This year it will be easier. The Grand Opening of a new Green Line happened on June 14, 2014. The Green Line will take you to your hotel. Take the Blue Line from the airport and transfer to the Green Line in Minneapolis. All the directions are on the attached Light Rail Information. You can go to the web site to check out schedules.

Camp-O-Rama Details

Camp-O-Rama for the 2014 Underwater Hockey Nationals will be held at the private cabin of Loon team member Kurt Allen, located on the St. Croix River 40 miles east of St. Paul. This location provides a chance to relax on a beautiful sand beach, hang out and talk with old friends, go sailing, waterskiing, or swimming.

A 22’ Sailboat and a ski boat will be available. Anyone travelling with a boat of any kind is welcome to bring it along.

If interested, please email Kurt at

It has been suggested that many hockey players are not very good at staying on the surface of bodies of water, so to keep my lawyer happy I need to say that you assume all risks and are responsible for your own safety.

No alcohol or inebriated underwater hockey players on the boats.

Monday, June 30 from early morning until whenever. Anyone wishing to stay the night is welcome to floor space or beach sleeping. If sleeping on the beach expect to make the acquaintance of members of the local deer population.

Transportation from the hotel to the cabin will be provided by loons.
Transportation from the cabin to the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport will be provided by a shuttle service departing from the nearby town of Hudson, WI. The Loons will provide transportation from the cabin to Hudson. Cost of the shuttle is $25, with possible volume discounts of 3 or more people.
See link below for shuttle schedule.
Optionally, Loons may be able to provide some transportation to the Airport, depending on time and number of people needing rides.

Lunch food and drink will be provided by the loons, and will include water, pop (soda for you non-Midwesterners), brats and hamburgers, etc. Cost for the food will be $15. If you have special dietary needs, please let us know and so we can try to provide something that works for you.
People are welcome to being their own beer, but it should be in cans only. No glass on the beach!

Backup plans
Being that this is Minnesota, there is a chance that the weather will not cooperate. If so, we will meet instead at the Water park of America.
Cost of this is $30 for all day. If staying only part of the day, prices may be cheaper. The park is located next to the Minneapolis Airport, and a $15 taxi ride away.

Shirt Design and Information

We are please to announced that we have finalized the shirt design and even lowered the price! Shirts will be made of dry whick material so they'll be cool and comfortable. Important for us Minnesotans up in the tundra here. Shirts are also available in short or long sleeve. Choices, choices.

The roster registration form has been updated to reflect the new shirt prices and is available here.

Update on Teams and Costs

After receiving intent to play from numerous teams, it is feasible that US Nationals may have twenty seven to thirty teams participating. We are happy to announce that we will accommodate this many teams with three playing areas in our 50m pool. Two of the areas will be 40 feet wide and one playing area will be 48’ feet wide.

Teams will enter as either an A or B team. Depending on the number of entries, we believe B teams will not have the opportunity to crossover into the A Division. If you want to play A teams enter the A Division.

For those with minimal vacation time the tournament will end at 2:15 p.m. on Sunday, which will allow you to catch a flight home that evening. Those with plenty of time can stay around for the banquet on Sunday night and the Camporama on Monday. Monday’s activities include waterskiing, tubing, kayaking and being lazy on the St. Croix River. Beautiful location just south of Hudson, Wisconsin. More information to follow on Camporama.

Tournament Entry Fee -$1,000 per team (includes the USOA development fee and the USOA National tournament fee)
Banquet- $35 per person
Beer at Banquet- $15 (we will buy two kegs and you can drink until the kegs are empty)
The roster payment form is located here.
Payment is due May 5, 2014.
